Working with Made by Many as Product Design Director, we partnered with the World Economic Forum to completely redesign almost their entire stable of digital products. From their flagship website (launching soon) to mobile assistant apps for their live events including the Annual Meeting in Davos.

Introduction and role

The World Economic Forum approached Made by Many to become their digital partners. Starting with an audit and mapping exercise of their then current products, we consolidated superfluous and siloed services into a cohesive selection of cross-platform products that augment the user experiences across their online content and events calendar.

I worked initially as a hands-on Product Designer and was promoted to Product Design Director on recommendation of the client after 2.5 years on the project and helping the team to deliver success. My Director role included leadership and day to day management of the design team on the project.

Design for functional flexibility

The Forum's user base is hugely diverse and spans public users to World Leaders and CEO's of some of the worlds largest companies… along with their entourage. Each user type has completely different requirements, expectations and abilities. We designed a suite of products that could be adapted for anyone.

Visual Language

The World Economic Forum was founded in Switzerland. A country inherently linked to some of the greatest, most enduring graphic design ever created. With this in mind, we selected a modern take on Helvetica as our primary typeface, and combined this with a visual language that takes a backseat on content rich editorial sections, and becomes beautifully functional and rich where interaction levels are high.

Built for everyone, all the time

Across the calendar year, the Forum users have highly differing needs. During Tier 1 events, such as Davos in January, users need an efficient, robust and fully featured assistant app to run on iOS and Android. When events are upcoming, they may need desktop access to plan their agendas, and post-event, view video and text content related to the events attended. Alongside this we created a public facing website which delivers curated content showing the Forum's global initiatives and impact.
